Natural Science is a branch of studies that learns the physical world. This science deals mostly with Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Geology. But it also learns the subjects in combination, like Biochemistry or Geophysics. Sub-disciplines also include Earth Science, Astronomy, Behavioral Science, Anthropology, Geology and others. Natural science importance is indubitable. Research studies of the last few decades confirm such position. Science education has been frequently accepted as an inseparable and extremely important part of comprehensive schooling (Lamanauskas, 2008).
Natural Science education helps create awareness, a sensitivity and a concern for nature and the environment. It is valuable as the search for truth may teach the virtues of honesty, humility and responsibility.
The goals of natural science are twofold: (1) to discover the essence of natural phenomena and their laws and, on this basis, to foresee or to create new phenomena; and (2) to reveal the potential for utilizing in practice the known laws, forces, and substances of nature.
The Institute of Natural Sciences of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University is an acknowledged leader in qualifying specialists in the field of Natural Sciences. Genetics and Biotechnology are considered to be the priorities in the development of Natural Sciences in the Russian Federation.
The Institute of Natural Sciences specializes on training chemists and biologists, ecologists and geologists, and teachers of Natural Sciences.
