About Syktyvkar State University

Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University is a national higher-education institution, located in Syktyvkar in the north-west of Russia. The university is the oldest educational institute in the Komi Republic. It was founded in 1972 and is officially recognized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. It has got the status of the Russian flagship university (among only 33 Russian HEIs). Over 9000 students and 600 teaching staff are currently studying and working at the University. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment at all available Institutes of the University.

There are 13 Institutes (faculties) and 52 Departments at Syktyvkar State University.

The university provides educational programs at Bachelor, Master, PG/PhD and Doctoral levels in different fields of study, such as: Medicine, Natural Sciences, Exact Sciences & IT, Economics & Finance, History & Law, Management & Entrepreneurship, Foreign Languages, Pedagogy & Psychology, Culture & Art, Humanities, Social Technologies, Law School and Individual Educational Programs. Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, sports facilities, study abroad and exchange programs, as well as administrative services. Pitirim Sorokin State University has got 3 museums: Creative Photography, Artistic Creativity, and Tourism Centers.

Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University regularly takes part in the international partnership programs and cooperation. About 40 international scientific educational projects are being held at the University. Fields of international scientific cooperation include: Ecology, Biology, Chemistry, Medicine, Economics, Philology, and Art.

The university is a member of the cooperative network University of the Arctic, that relates to education and research in the North. During 2007-2008, Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University was chosen as Associate Regional Office of Undergraduate Studies of the University of the Arctic. Moreover, the University has a partnership with the Russian Mineralogical Society. In 2009, Sorokin Research Center was founded by our university to do research and public archive materials on the sociologist Pitirim Sorokin.

Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University provides accommodation to both local and international students. The university possesses 8 dormitories, all of which are located in the city center.
